Horseback riding in France. White flamingos and French Marshes. Summer 2012
I was particularly excited for the horseback riding portion of my Europe trip with A.C.I.S. How many people get to say that they rode horses in France? However, whatever I was expecting, it wasn’t this. When I picture France, swamps and marshes are the last thing that would come to mind.
That being said, the scenery surrounding our ride was absolutely magnificent. Here’s a short video from the company’s official website, which gives a pretty good idea about how breathtaking the views are.
We went around noon, so didn’t get to experience the same colors.
All of the horses were creamy white, some with dappled grey spots. They were all very gentle.
Every time I go horseback riding, I always get excited when guides pair me up with a horse. I feel like it’s some werid version of finding your spirit animal.
The company was also home to some very playful, very cute sheepdogs, who were enthusiastic about playing fetch with some pebbles that we found
The entire ride was relaxing and beautiful. We rode in a single file line, so it was impossible to communicate with anyone other than those directly in front of or behind you. It was a nice break from being constantly around a crowd of talkative people, but I am an extrovert and missed the conversations.
We rode through sandy marshes, alongside blue waters, under blue skies. The area was completely flat, so you could see for miles and miles. Birds of all shapes and sizes were easy to spot against the tall grass. The most exciting of these were Flamingos. Pure white flamingos! They dotted the water in all directions, and their fluffy bodies could be seen scrounging for shrimp in the water.
The entire trip was a blast–albeit a relaxing one. I’m glad I got to cross the experience off of my bucket list!
